Valencia to have Spain’s largest geothermal plant to date

The City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia has opted for geothermal energy to renovate the air-conditioning system of the Science Museum. The new system to be installed, financed by the European Union’s Next Generation Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, will replace the existing one in the building, which dates from 2005.

The Science Museum’s geothermal plant will be the largest installed in Spain and will serve to reduce the building’s carbon footprint and cut its energy consumption by 30%.

The Science Museum will have a network of 45 small-diameter wells (30 centimetres) interconnected with pipes. Once the work has been completed, the only visible elements will be the manhole covers and the installation cabinets, similar to those that currently exist in the area for other uses.
